We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…
In February 2019, Jason Aldean landed his 20th number one with a song written by Jaron Boyer, Josh Mirenda, and Michael Tyler. This is the same team of songwriters that wrote Dierks Bentley’s “Somewhere On A Beach.”
The three writers admit that this song did not come easy. They’d been spinning their wheels in the writing session when they came up with the title “Girl Like You.” It was already five o’clock and they wanted to wrap things up, so they split for the day. But, that night Michael Tyler couldn’t get the hook out of his mind, so he came up with a verse. When he sent it to the other two writers, they liked what they heard and decided to get back together and finish it.
They sent the demo to Jason Aldean’s producer, Michael Knox. And, when Jason heard the song, he said that it grabbed him right from the get-go. Jason ended up including it on his 2018 album Rearview Town where it became the project’s third single. Once it peaked at number one on ACC, “Girl Like You” held onto that spot for a second week, making it Jason’s third straight multi-week chart-topper – all of which were songs from Rearview Town.
