The Song Remembers When: Eli Young Band – “Crazy Girl”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In 2000, the Eli Young Band formed when the guys were still in college. They started recording music five years later, but it wasn’t until 2011 that they would land their first number one hit with “Crazy Girl.” The song was written by Lee Brice and Liz Rose.

Lee was still a new artist at the time and was writing songs for his album, but EYB’s Jon Jones had heard “Crazy Girl” and asked Lee if they could have it. Jon argued that it sounded more like a song that they would do than one that Lee would record. Lee fell for that and let the group have it.

Lee said that he loved working with his co-writer Liz. The idea for the song started with them talking about how women can be insecure and get a little crazy about relationships sometimes.  He said that the song was sweet, but it still had an edge.

The Eli Young Band included “Crazy Girl” on their Life At Best album which also included another future number one for the band “Even If It Breaks Your Heart.”
