The Song Remembers When: Devin Dawson – “All On Me”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In the spring of 2017, Devin Dawson would make his debut on the Countdown with “All On Me.” The song was the lead single from his first album Dark Horse. He wrote it with his twin brother Jacob Durrett, along with Austin Smith.

It was a Sunday morning when the three got together at Austin’s place. Devin pulled out his phone where he had saved the title “All On Me.” So, they went to work on ideas of what one could “put” on another person – “you could count on me,” “you could fall on me,” “you can call on me,” and so on.

The song was the very first one he recorded in the studio with producer Jay Joyce. They felt they had something big. And, Devin didn’t have a record deal at the time, so Jay brought the recorded track to Warner Music Nashville.

Devin felt like “All On Me” helped him land his deal. It peaked just shy of the top spot on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart in March 2018. And, the song helped set Devin on a path as one of country music’s promising new artists.
