Hero of the Week: Cole Dykes

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.

This week, we received an email from Lorra Walley, out of Mississippi. Lorra wanted to nominate 24-year-old Cole Dykes. Lorra writes:

Dear Kix,

Cole and his cousin Kaleb were out on a job clearing land when they came across a guide line set by the power company. Kaleb went to pick it up to move it, and at that point, Kaleb was electrocuted. Cole jumped off his machine and pushed Kaleb away from the cable but that cable swung back and hit Cole, knocking him to the ground electrocuting him.

Cole sustained multiple injuries, including burns all over his whole body, in his heroic efforts to save his cousin. Cole didn’t think twice when he jumped to help his cousin, knowing that he was placing his own life at risk.

Signed,
Lorra

Kix’s Response:

Well, Lorra, thank you for sharing this story. It says a lot about the two young men and their bond. Cole’s heroic actions definitely saved his cousin. We wish Cole and Kaleb a speedy recovery, and we’re happy to recognize Cole Dykes, from Richton, Mississippi, as our ACC Hero of the Week.
