We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…
Thomas Rhett often writes from true life experiences, but there are none that matched his life more than his 2018 number one “Life Changes.” He wrote the song with his father Rhett Akins, along with his frequent songwriting partners Ashley Gorley and Jesse Frasure.
TR said that the subject matter was something he had to write because it was what he was going through at the time. He was looking back on the last five or six years of his life and saw how much had changed. He never imagined the song would become a single.
The first verse of “Life Changes” is about going from being a college student to a country music artist. The second is about getting married to his wife, Lauren. And, the third verse focuses on the adoption of the couple’s oldest daughter Willa Gray from Uganda while awaiting the birth of their baby girl Ada James.
The song became the title cut of Thomas’ third studio album. After its release in September 2017, the album reached the top of the all-genre sales chart. As for the single? Well, it became TR’s eleventh number one hit and the fourth of five chart-toppers from that particular album.
