We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…
Brett Young scored his fifth consecutive number one in 2020 with “Catch,” a song he wrote with Ross Copperman and Ashley Gorley. Brett wanted to write a twist on the story of a girl going out with her buddies and falling for a guy.
The songwriters loved the play on words with “catch” – as in catch a buzz, catch a game – but then the guy is blindsided by a girl and sets out to “catch” her name. As a former college baseball player, Brett especially loved the idea of “Catch” because he felt it tied into his passion for baseball.
The song was released in the summer of 2019 as the second single from Brett’s album Ticket To L.A. It reached a million in sales and made it all the way to number one in April 2020.
