Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.
Thank you to one of our listeners Brianna for sending us the story she found on TikTok.
Jessica Higgs works as an Instacart delivery person. She was working on an order for a woman who was having groceries dropped off for her elderly father.
Jessica normally leaves the groceries on the porch, but this time she had a gut feeling that something was wrong. She saw the elderly man come out onto the porch and could see he wasn’t well. Although she had been told to never go in houses, Jessica felt she had to help.
She went inside with his groceries where she spotted a propane tank in the house. When Jessica walked back outside, she felt dizzy from the fumes. She immediately called the woman that placed the order and told her the situation. The woman sent her son over and sure enough the house was filled with fumes. The woman’s son turned the tank off, opened the windows, and got his grandfather to safety.
The woman thanked Jessica and left her with a 100-dollar Instacart tip. While Jessica appreciated the thank you and tip, making sure the elderly man was okay was something she was happy to do. She’s glad she acted on her instincts and did something.

Suzanne’s Response:
You’re taught if you see something, say something, and Jessica did. Obviously, people need to be very careful in these situations. Going into a stranger’s home can be an unwelcomed act, but, in this case, things worked out for the best.
Jessica Higgs, you saved that man’s life. We’re happy to recognize you as our ACC Hero!
