We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…
At the age of 20, Gabby Barrett wrapped up her time on American Idol in 2018 as a third-place finalist. So, she began making the rounds in Nashville trying to land a record deal. And, she was doing some songwriting. On what was her fourth writing session in Music City, Gabby penned “I Hope” with Zach Kale and Jon Nite.
Since she was still without a record deal, Gabby released the song independently. “I Hope” started gaining some major traction. It wasn’t long before Warner Music Nashville took notice and signed her to a recording contract.
The label wanted to build on the emerging success of “I Hope,” so they decided to work that as her first single. By the spring of 2020, Gabby had her very first number one.
