We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…
By the time 2020 rolled around, it had been a year and a half since Dierks Bentley released new music. And, with the pandemic quarantine going on, everyone was in a different mindset. So, when this song came along, Dierks knew that we all felt a little “gone” even though no one was leaving their homes.
Dierks and his family were living a secluded life in the mountains of Colorado when he initially heard “Gone.” The song, written by Nicolle Galyon, Ben Johnson, and Niko Moon, was really about a breakup. It told the story about a girl moving on, while the guy just checked out – leaving his clothes on the floor, bills at the door… and his neighbors thought he was dead.
“Gone” was released in October 2020. In June 2021, it peaked just shy of the top spot, at number two, on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart and stayed there for four weeks.
