Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.
This week, Sarah Voter nominated her cousin Jake. She shares:
Jake Voter is a game warden in Maine. His partner is a canine named Koda. As far as Jake’s concerned, Koda is the more important part of his team. He puts all his trust in his dog when it comes to search and rescue. And, during this time of year, there is a lot of activity in the woods with hikers and climbers.
Just last week, two people (separate cases) were reported missing and Jake happened to be patrolling the area. Jake says if he had stayed on the trail as he does, he might’ve missed them. But, Koda runs through the woods covering a lot of ground, darting back and forth circling the area while Jake checks closer to the trail. First, they found an 11-year-old little girl who had wandered off from her family. Then, they found the second person – a 77-year-old woman who had gotten turned around while hiking and had been missing for two days. Both were found by Koda and Jake and returned home safely all within 72 hours.
Jake says there’s no way he could’ve found them as quickly without his canine partner Koda.
