Hero of the Week: Gary Wilburn

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.

On October 4th, truck driver Gary Wilburn, from San Antonio, Texas, hit some heavy traffic near Forrest City, Arkansas. Gary spotted a state trooper that had been in a car crash, but he didn’t see any other cars involved nor did he see a police presence.  Every car in the traffic jam was just driving by, so he pulled his truck over to make sure the officer was okay.

Gary found that the trooper was pinned in his car and was in bad shape. So, he called 911 and stayed with the trooper until emergency personnel arrived. The trooper was airlifted to a local hospital.

Gary was recognized by the Truckload Carriers Association with their Highway Angel honor. He said he couldn’t believe people were just driving by, and he’s glad he was at the right place to help.

Kix’s Response:

Gary Wilburn, we’re happy to recognize you as our ACC Hero. We’re so glad you were there to help that officer. Sometimes we assume someone else reported something but clearly that’s not always the case.
