Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.
This week, we received this email nominating two people for ACC’s Hero of the Week. They write:
Hi Kix,
I want to nominate two people for the Hero of the Week since their stories go together.
The first is my seven-year-old son, EJ, who has been my personal hero since the day he was born. He came into this world with only one kidney. He has been through countless procedures, tests, surgeries, and hospital stays in his short life and has been a trooper through all of it.
In late 2022, we finally found a match and began all the testing to ensure the kidney would take. During the testing, it was found that EJ’s kidney had not gotten worse in the last few months, so they decided to hold off on the transplant so that his body didn’t reject it.
This brings me to the second person. The donor was asked to give her kidney to someone else in my son’s name, so that someone gets the lifesaving transplant they need now and so that my son gets it when he is ready.
My son is my hero! He has been through more than any seven-year-old should and never complains. And, the donor is saving two complete strangers lives. How do you thank someone for that?
Check out EJ’s Facebook page “EJ’s Journey for a New Kidney” to follow his journey and to see ways you can help!
Thank you!
