Hero of the Week: Dianne Gordon

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.

Dianne Gordon, of Michigan, was walking to work like she’d done for a year since her car broke down. The 65-year-old works at a grocery store and walks about three miles each way, every day.

Last month, while on her walk, she made a quick stop at the BP gas station to get some snacks. While there, she found a bag containing almost 15 thousand dollars in cash! Dianne immediately called the police.

Sergeant Brad Connell with the White Lake Police Department took the call. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. When he arrived and checked the bag, he found a bunch of cards and realized these were gifts from a wedding party earlier that day.

When he heard Dianne’s story of not having a car and having to walk to work, he was moved. She could’ve easily kept the money to buy a car, but she didn’t. He asked his colleagues at the police department if he could start a GoFundMe campaign to help Dianne get a car.

Sergeant Connell and his wife got the word out and the local news picked up on the story. That fundraiser brought in over 80 thousand dollars and Dianne was able to get a new Jeep.

Dianne said she never expected any of this and she just did what was always taught:  Do the right thing.

Guest Host Scotty McCreery’s Response:

Wow! How about that?! Doing something good and watch it come back around!

We’re happy to recognize Dianne Gordon as the ACC Hero of the Week. I know that newlywed couple thinks so, too!
