Heroes of the Week: Greyson Thurman, Banner Tidwell, and Marti Yusko

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.

This week, we salute three students from Callisburg High School as ACC Heroes for helping their school janitor Mr. James.

Callisburg is a small town in North Texas. According to Principal Jason Hooper, at the school, they take care of their own and that’s exactly what Greyson Thurman, Banner Tidwell, and Marti Yusko did for Mr. James. The three students heard that the 80-year-old had to come out of retirement because his rent was raised $400, and he was at risk of losing his place to live.

When the boys saw that he had returned, they started taking pictures and videos of Mr. James. They posted them on social media platforms with the caption “No one at 80 should have to go back to work unless they want to.” Eventually, they started a GoFundMe page to help him with his rent. They had hoped to raise around $10,000, but, in just nine days, they had collected over $271,000! Mr. James said that he can’t believe how many people donated and how many wanted to change his life.

Kix’s Response:

At a time when we see so much heartbreak in the world, here is a story of three young men doing something good for someone. I’d like to recognize all three – Greyson, Banner, and Marti – as our Heroes of the Week.

And, to Mr. James, enjoy your retirement, sir!
