Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.
Jennifer Hutchings emailed us to nominate her mom, Barbara Neuenhoff, as this week’s ACC Hero. She writes:
Hey Kix,
My mom has dedicated her life to taking care of her patients for the last 15 years. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2021. After having her first surgery in October of that year, she walked three miles in the local breast cancer walk and quickly returned to work. In 2022, after her second surgery, she once again returned to her patients before doctor’s orders. My mom, throughout it all, was just grateful to be alive and so appreciative of her staff, from her doctors to her coworkers.
On the one-year anniversary of her diagnosis, she wrote a heartfelt tribute to me and the rest of her family – that’s just who she is.
She has at least four more years of cancer drug treatments, but she says she is looking forward to making great memories and enjoying the next 30 years of her life, just like that Tim McGraw song says.
I believe nurses shouldn’t just get recognized during “Nurses Week” but they should have their own month!
Thanks,
Jennifer

Kix’s Response:
I couldn’t agree more! For all the work that nurses do, my sister included, it should be year-round, for sure! Your mom sounds like a true hero, and I’m glad she is doing so great!
We’re happy to recognize Barbara Neuenhoff as our ACC Hero of the Week.
