Hero of the Week: Julia Santana

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.

Five-year-old Julia Santana lives in New Jersey. While on vacation in the Dominican Republic with her family, she saved her two-year-old sister from drowning.

Julia’s mom, Alfa, was nearby and turned away for a minute but when she looked back, she saw Julia pulling her sister out of the hot tub and saying, “Come, Cami, come!” Alfa ran to them and saw that her baby was purple. She immediately started CPR. Fortunately, the little girl survived.

The family spent six days in the hospital. The doctors told them had Julia not pulled her out of the hot tub when she did, they would’ve lost their little girl. The five-year-old said she learned what to do from her swim classes. Julia will receive a hero’s award for saving her baby sister Cami.

Kix’s Response:

Drowning incidents are all too common, and it sounds like those swimming lessons really paid off for five-year-old Julia! They not only gave her the confidence to get in the water but also to pull her sister to safety…

We’re happy to recognize little Julia Santana as our ACC Hero!
