Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.
Honorine lives with her family in Madagascar. In her small community, there was no clean water. She would get up at three in the morning and make a three-mile trek to pay for water that was dirty just so her family would have something to cook and hydrate with. They would often battle stomach diseases which affected the other residents in the community as well.
Thankfully, Helvetas, a non-profit with offices in Germany, Switzerland, and the U.S., stepped in and made real change in the area. They focused on supplying hand pumps and water kiosks to give the residents access clean drinking water, and the company protected water resources so that farming could flourish.
Honorine, her family, and the community couldn’t be happier and healthier! Now that they have access to clean water, she has started her own café. She makes soups and breads and she’s welcoming diners. Honorine says she now has a job that will ensure her children will never go hungry again.

Kix’s Response:
Wow, that puts things in perspective real fast, doesn’t it? Think of Honorine when you think you’ve got it bad. It is good to have these non-profits that come in and do this work.
And, Honorine, it sounds like you’re an incredible mother to your children and have overcome the odds. We’re happy to recognize her, as well as Helvetas, as this week’s ACC Heroes.
