Hero of the Week: Edison

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.

A young couple from Seattle recently returned from a vacation to the Big Island in Hawaii. They were devastated to watch the news of the fires in Maui. As they watched on TV, their son Edison, who is 5, asked them to turn it off because he was too sad watching the story.

Edison told his parents he wanted to help those people and thought having a lemonade stand could be the answer. His folks agreed. So, they gathered up a bunch of lemonade and ice cream sandwiches and set up on a street in downtown Seattle. Even though Edison was selling his lemonade for a dollar, folks were dropping off 20-dollar bills hoping to raise a lot of money for the people of Maui.

When all was said and done, Edison had collected 1,600 dollars… Then with a match from his mom and dad’s company, the total came to 8,000 dollars! Edison’s mom, Ami, was blown away by the response, so they continued to fund raise for another week. They even brought in online donations, which would eventually total 17,000 dollars!

Kix’s Response:

Wow, look at Edison, just five-years old! What a generous community! I know how much that money will mean to those families in Maui. Edison, from Seattle, you are our ACC Hero!
