Hero of the Week: Heman Bekele

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.

A ninth grader was named “America’s Top Young Scientist” after developing a compound-based bar of soap that treats skin cancer. Fourteen-year-old Heman Bekele, from Annandale, Virginia, said that the most difficult part of the process was developing the prototype. The soap uses cancer-fighting chemicals to treat the skin.

By 2028, Heman hopes to have a non-profit organization where he can treat as many people as possible. His parents, friends, and teachers are all big supporters of him achieving this goal.

Wow, and I thought just getting to school on time at 14 was a big deal!

Congratulations, Heman, you’re very impressive and inspiring to people of all ages! There’s no telling what kind of impact your soap will have on those dealing with skin cancer.
