Hero of the Week: Roman McConn

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.

When Roman McConn was just four years old, he was at a pet store with his parents. He saw all the dogs in crates waiting to be adopted. When Roman learned that not all dogs find homes and the fate of many would be winding up in shelters, he wanted to help.

So, Roman and his mom started Project Freedom Ride to rescue dogs from kill shelters in Texas. Once the dogs leave the shelters, they are sent up North to find their forever homes. He also started posting videos of dogs that might be passed over, explaining why that dog was the one you should adopt.

Roman, who is now 12, has saved over five thousand shelter dogs. His efforts have been noticed by so many people including the folks at Disney who gave him a show called Roman to the Rescue. Roman says he doesn’t know what he’ll be doing in his life but helping dogs will always be a part of it.

Kix’s Response:

Wow! That’s pretty incredible to have that kind of empathy for animals and to actually do something about it at such a young age.  Not a lot of adults would have that kind of follow through.

Roman, I’m glad you’re there for these dogs, and we are happy to recognize you as our ACC Hero of the Week!
