The Song Remembers When: Jordan Davis – “Almost Maybes”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Song: “Almost Maybes”
Songwriters: Jordan Davis, Jesse Frasure, and Hillary Lindsey
Album: Buy Dirt (EP), Jordan Davis (EP)

In the summer 2020, Jordan Davis released “Almost Maybes” from his self-titled EP. He wrote the song with Jesse Frasure and Hillary Lindsey, a couple of Nashville’s best songwriters.

It was Hillary who came up with the phrase “almost maybes.” She shared her own personal stories of failed relationships prior to meeting the man she would marry, and Jordan thought, “Wow, we’ve all been there.” At the time of a breakup, it’s awful but it gets you one step closer to the person you’re meant to be with even though you may not see it that way at the time.

They all decided to make it an upbeat song to stay on the positive side of breaking up. They wanted to drive home the focus of a breakup being part of a bigger plan to get you where you’re supposed to be.

After its release as a single, “Almost Maybes” climbed the chart for 58 weeks before it peaked at number five in July 2021. By end of the year, it was among the top ten most played songs.
