Hero of the Week: Emily Ainsworth

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.

Alison Ainsworth, from Alberta, Canada, wrote in with an inspiring story about her hero, daughter Emily.

Emily Ainsworth, who is now 22, was diagnosed with a medical and developmental disability at birth. She has a rare genetic disorder that has resulted in many brain and stomach surgeries and frequent hospitalization since she was a baby. Despite living in chronic pain, she’s full of life and radiates happiness wherever she goes.

Emily’s faithful Autism service dog Levi was by her side for 14 years and inspired her to start Wags Cookies, all-natural, heart-shaped dog cookies are made with just four wholesome ingredients. And, since she began the company, Emily has employed others her age who also have disabilities. She calls her disability a “superpower.”

And, how about this? Wags Cookies made it to the 2021 Grammy Awards red carpet where they were included in the official gift bags!

Kix’s Response:

Emily, you sound like one amazing young woman… To face so many challenges and still get up every day and work hard to create your own business is very inspiring!

So, we’re very happy to recognize Emily, the creator and CEO of Wags Cookies, as this week’s ACC Hero.

These little cookies sound like a great gift for my dog Smiley at home… I’ll be tracking ‘em down!
