The population of Brewton, Alabama, is estimated to be about 5,500, and 17 percent of those folks deal with food insecurity. Unfortunately, people who live in that area are having a hard time getting enough to eat, and that’s where Fred and Lisa McMillan come in. Lisa, who, at one time, was food insecure herself, made it her mission to help others in that situation. She and her husband started a restaurant called Drexell & Honeybee’s where their slogan is “We feed the need.”
When you walk into the restaurant, you won’t find a menu or a cash register. There is a private area to make a donation for your meal if you can afford it, but if you can’t, you can still enjoy a meal there. Sometimes Lisa finds just a few coins but lots of notes of gratitude for the meal from the area’s patrons, people who are thankful they got to eat today.

Kix’s Response:
How about that? More people like Lisa and Fred McMillan are needed in this world.
Drexell and Honeybee’s works solely on donations, and I’m happy to recognize Lisa and Fred of Brewton, Alabama, as our ACC Heroes.
