Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.
We received a Facebook message from Stacy LeBlanc of Stafford, Virginia, nominating combat veteran Sam Rock as our ACC Hero of the Week.
Sam started the non-profit Battle Buddy Response Team to help veterans who are dealing with mental health issues. It all started when Sam went to check on one of his buddies, a fellow combat veteran. What Sam didn’t realize was that his visit saved his friend’s life! The friend was coping with a decision to leave this world behind, but the visit and conversation helped him turn things around.
Immediately, Sam thought that there needed to be a veteran-to-veteran organization that makes house calls to check on those struggling. For Sam, he believes that anyone who has served our country should never suffer in silence or feel alone. Today, Battle Buddy Response Team has 165 volunteers, and they have provided service to over 468 veterans.
