Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.
This week, our team discovered a story of one man’s passion to bring joy to those in nursing homes or rehabilitation centers.
Trevor Phillips used to be homeless. He had turned to drugs to cope with his life. But, one day, he was welcomed into a homeless outreach center where he met a woman who showed him that there was another way to live. She helped turn his life around. Trevor was so appreciative that he has now found a way to pay his good fortune forward.
Trevor gets unsold flowers from wholesale flower shops that are going to be tossed away. He refurbishes the plants and gives them new life with the help of a team of volunteers. Once they’re ready, Trevor delivers the arrangements to nursing homes and senior centers around the area hoping to put a few flowers in the hand of every patient and even the staff.
Trevor calls this mission Flower the People. One patient said, “I love the flowers. He must really love people to do what he does.” As for Trevor, doing this makes him feel connected to what’s important.
