Heroes of the Week: Memories of Honor and Fallen Soldiers

This Memorial Day weekend, we wanted to shine a spotlight on Memories of Honor.

This non-profit organization pays tribute to fallen soldiers so that their memory never dies. You can sign up for a race or an event and your participating shirt will have the name of a fallen soldier on the back. That soldier’s story can be found on the Memories of Honor website.

One of the stories on the site is that of Staff Sargent Bryan Burgess. Born in Cleburne, Texas, Bryan had his sights set on becoming a police officer, but when 9/11 happened, he told his family that he was enlisting in the Army.

Bryan was deployed to Afghanistan. In fact, he’d served his country through three tours. He survived explosions and attacks and was just one month from his 30th birthday when he lost his life on a combat mission.

Bryan was survived by his wife and two children. The story of what happened the day he lost his life is told in the documentary The Hornets’ Nest. The events of that day were caught on camera by a war correspondent.

Kix’s Response:

This week, I’d like to name Bryan Burgess and all those who died while serving our country as our ACC Heroes alongside the team behind Memories of Honor for keeping the stories of fallen heroes like Bryan’s alive.

We salute you this Memorial Day and every day.
