The Song Remembers When: Randy Houser – “We Went”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Song: “We Went”
Songwriters: Justin Wilson, Matthew J. Rogers, and John King
Album: Fired Up

In 2015, Randy Houser was working on his fourth studio album Fired Up. And, Randy was determined to release “We Went” as the lead single for the project.

The song first made its way to Benny Brown, the head of Randy’s record label. Benny immediately thought it was perfect. Typically known for more traditional country songs, Randy liked that this was different. The storyline and production stood out to him, and he felt it would do the same for his fans. Plus, it would be a great addition to his live shows.

The music video for “We Went” portrayed a Bonnie and Clyde-type couple who robs the cartel and gives the money to those in need.

In March 2016, “We Went” reached number one and became Randy’s third chart-topper.
