As we celebrate Father’s Day this weekend, we thought we’d highlight Elvie Shane’s number one from 2021 – “My Boy.”

When Elvie met the woman who would become his wife, she told him she had a five-year-old son. At the time, he was looking for purpose in his life. Elvie would go on to marry that woman and become a father to her son.

Years later, he saw a post on Facebook that read, “I don’t have a stepson, I have a son who was born before I met him.” That phrase stuck with Elvie. When he was in a writing session, one of his co-writers asked Elvie about his stepson and he responded, “Dude, he’s my boy.” Then, they got to writing.

As Elvie describes it, the song was sent by God, meaning it wasn’t something he or his fellow songwriters could take credit for. It would go to top the chart after a 54-week climb, becoming Elvie’s first number one!
