The Song Remembers When: Kenny Chesney – “Tip Of My Tongue”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Song: “Tip Of My Tongue”
Songwriters: Kenny Chesney, Ross Copperman, and Ed Sheeran
Album: Here And Now

In the Summer of 2019, Kenny Chesney released the first single from his album Here And Now.

“Tip Of My Tongue” was an idea Kenny had for a while but couldn’t quite figure out where to take it. He teamed up with songwriter Ross Copperman and artist Ed Sheeran to help him write it. Now, the idea came from the figure of speech of when you can’t quite remember someone’s name but it’s right there on the “tip of your tongue.” And, the guys took that phrase to a literal place – when you kiss someone, and you can taste the “salt and sugar.”

Kenny had written with Ross before but getting into a room to write with Ed Sheeran was a first for the two artists. Kenny said that the vibe that day was very easy, so the song really flowed between the guys.

“Tip Of My Tongue” became a Top 10 hit for Kenny in December 2019.
