The Song Remembers When: Kenny Chesney – “Noise”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Song: “Noise”
Songwriters: Kenny Chesney, Ross Copperman, Shane McAnally, and Jon Nite
Album: Cosmic Hallelujah

In March 2016, Kenny Chesney released the lead single from his album Cosmic Hallelujah. “Noise” was a song idea that Kenny had. He was driving to his manager’s office when he called songwriter Shane McAnally to share the idea. They were on such a roll that Kenny sat in the parking lot so they could get as much done on the song as possible. After that initial work, Shane finished the song with Ross Copperman and Jon Nite. Then, Kenny recorded it two days later.

If you think back to 2016, you might recall that it was an election year. Kenny felt like the song was so relevant during that time – with all the talking heads and everyone shouting to be heard, it had all become just noise! Plus, everywhere we go there’s so much stuff coming at you. If it’s not the TV and politicians, it’s your phones, your cars, the streets – it never quiets down. The idea behind the song is we find real life outside of all the noise.

“Noise” became a Top 10 hit in July 2016, peaking at number six, and it was certified as a gold-selling song in the U.S. and Canada.
