We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Song: “This”
Songwriters: Frank Rogers and Kara DioGuardi
Album: Charleston, SC 1966

In 2011, Darius Rucker had already achieved five country hits and was gearing up to promote “This,” the second single from his album Charleston, SC 1966. It was written by his producer Frank Rogers and pop writer Kara DioGuardi. The song reflected on life’s unexpected paths and the gratitude found in simple moments.

The story begins with imagery of family and home life, embodying the American dream and contentment. The chorus points out that life’s twists often lead us to where we’re meant to be, even if it wasn’t part of the original plan.

Darius revealed that “This” was his favorite song from the album. Fans played a pivotal role in its release when their enthusiasm prompted the label to release it as a single. In April 2011, “This” reached number one on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.
