The Song Remembers When: “Truck Yeah” – Tim McGraw

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In 2012, Tim McGraw would reach the Top 10 on the Billboard Country Airplay Chart with a song called “Truck Yeah.” The song debuted at number 22, marking it as the highest charting debut Tim’s career.

It was written by Chris Lucas and Preston Brust of LOCASH, along with Chris Janson and songwriter Danny Myrick. Now, Preston said that his publisher told him, “Don’t write any more songs about trucks. Nobody wants ‘em!” So that day, when they all sat down to write, he said, “I love my truck. Let’s just write one about trucks!”

Well, they started with the guitar riff, and Chris Janson said, “Heck yeah!” And, Preston added, “You mean ‘truck yeah!’”

They recorded the song and they took it to their label, and the label told them, “Nobody’s gonna record this thing.” So, they left it with their publisher. Well, a few days later, while playing a charity event in Mexico, Preston gets this call from his publisher who said, “Guess what? Tim McGraw loves that song and wants to record it.”

It was first single from Tim’s Two Lanes of Freedom album and it became a Top 10 hit! So, this week’s The Song Remembers When is Tim McGraw’s “Truck Yeah:”
