The Song Remembers When: “Fly Over States” – Jason Aldean

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In May of 2012, Jason Aldean had achieved his seventh Billboard number one with “Fly Over States,” and that song was written by Neil Thrasher and Michael Dulaney.

Now, Jason said that he first heard the song when he was recording his album Wide Open back in 2009, but he had wrapped up the project and had no room for another track. Well, he held onto the song, and it was the first thing he cut for his My Kinda Party album.

Jason grew up on the outskirts of Macon, Georgia, surrounded by farmland. And, he said that the song spoke to him. He didn’t like the way some people dismissed those Midwestern states. He felt like those were his people and that he could speak for them with this song. It became a “pro-heartland tune,” and his fifth consecutive number one off his My Kinda Party album!

This week’s The Song Remembers When: Jason Aldean’s “Fly Over States:”
