Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Kidde Hero of the Week…

This week’s Hero is Chad Houser. He’s a top chef and restaurant owner out of Dallas, Texas.

Chad had the opportunity to teach eight young men at a Dallas County juvenile detention facility how to make ice cream for a competition he was involved with. One of the kids beat out all of the rest, even culinary students and young professionals, citywide.

Well, this got Chad to thinking about this young man’s position in the system. Would he be able to pursue his dream of one day being a chef himself? Chad knew he had to help him and kids like him.

So, after years of volunteering at the juvenile detention center, teaching kids about cooking, Chad started up a new café. The Café Momentum is now open in Dallas. It’s an upscale restaurant and nonprofit that incorporates a 12-month paid internship for the young men and women coming out of the juvenile facility in Dallas. Nearly 500 kids have participated in this program so far!

Through his love of cooking and finding a way to give back, this week’s Kidde Hero is Chad Houser!
