This week, we turn the spotlight on California resident Carol Rosenstein.
Carol started the non-profit Music Mends Minds. This is a “musical support group band” for patients suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Carol’s own husband was diagnosed with dementia, and she noticed when he played music, it would have an incredible effect on him. It helped his confidence and enabled him to feel good despite his loss of memory. Carol said, “He never lost his ability to play music or remember lyrics and playing gave him a new purpose in life.”
The band they started with other patients is called “The 5th Dementia,” and they get together weekly to play for friends and family. And, since that first initial band was started, they have now helped form 11 bands like this worldwide and that number continues to grow.
You know, we’ve heard how powerful music is, and I have no doubt that this is something great – not only for the patients but for their friends and family. So, good for you, Carol, for starting this up… You are our Kidde Hero of the Week!
