We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…
In 2016, the Zac Brown Band landed their 13th number one with “Beautiful Drug.” It was co-written by Zac Brown and Niko Moon. Zac’s chemistry with Niko had a proven track record because they had scored two prior number one hits with “Homegrown” and “Loving You Easy.”
“Beautiful Drug” had an EDM (Electronic Dance Music) influence that was so popular in pop music at the time. It was much different than anything the band had released before. Zac said that he wanted to make music without boundaries, allowing the band to stretch out creatively. And, he wanted to write something that could be played in a Vegas night club.
Zac knew naming the song “Beautiful Drug” would throw people off, but he wanted them to listen to it and realize that it was about a guy being hooked on a girl, not drugs. Well, it worked!
And, it’s this week’s The Song Remembers When, from the band’s Jekyll + Hyde album, here’s “Beautiful Drug.”
