We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…
In 2016, Brantley Gilbert released his album The Devil Don’t Sleep. The first single off that project, “The Weekend,” reached inside the Top 10, peaking at number seven for two weeks, in May of 2017. It was co-written by Brantley and songwriter Andrew DeRoberts.
Now, Brantley and Andrew had never met. One of Brantley’s buddies, who ran a publishing company, played some of Andrew’s songs for Brantley. Within a few minutes, he knew that he wanted to work with Andrew and gave him a call.
Over the phone, they finished two songs. Both would land on his The Devil Don’t Sleep album and one of them would be “The Weekend.” Brantley said that the idea came from watching his audiences throw down hard at his shows. He wanted a song that would match that intensity, one that said, “You’ve worked hard, now kick back even harder.”
This week’s The Song Remembers When is Brantley Gilbert’s “The Weekend.”
