We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…
In 2013, Tyler Farr broke through with his third single “Redneck Crazy,” written by Chris Tompkins, Josh Kear, and Mark Irwin. This song drew comparisons to Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats.” And, that wasn’t much of a stretch since Chris and Josh were writers on both of those songs.
Josh said that on his way to the songwriting appointment, a song came on the radio about a guy being resigned to the fact that his girlfriend had gone off with another guy. Josh thought to himself that there is no way he or his friends would take it like that. He remembers that when they came up with the line “about to get my pissed off on,” he knew they were on to something.
When the song was pitched to him, Tyler had just gone through a breakup. He loved that the song had some humor to it. And, it was the first verse that hooked him. While he would never do something like this or condone it, Tyler loved the song’s tongue-in-cheek nature. Plus, he felt this was different than anything else he’d heard.
Fans agreed, and the song went on to peak inside the Top 5, becoming Tyler’s first big hit. It’s this week’s The Song Remembers When – Tyler Farr and “Redneck Crazy.”
