Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.
This week, we received a Facebook message from Jeff McCammon of Mississippi. He writes:
Dear Kix,
I would like to nominate my dad, Danny McCammon, as Hero of the Week. He came from a farming family and was the youngest of 13 kids. He would eventually settle in Southaven, Mississippi, where he became a reserve deputy with the Desoto County Sheriff’s Department. While a reserve, he also became the fire chief of the Southaven Fire Department.
At the time, Southaven was a small town with the closest ambulance coming from Memphis, Tennessee. My dad knew this was a problem, so he got together with my aunt and uncle, friends, and volunteers from the fire department and approached the county board. The group convinced them to purchase an ambulance. They would all “man” this on their own time while balancing their own careers and family life. This team of people served the whole county.
I’ve watched this small town grow into the city it is today. And, as a kid, I watched my dad work tirelessly as I went on calls with him. Now, I am a reserve deputy for the same department.
My dad passed away back in 2010 and his absence has left a huge hole in our family and this community. I would like to recognize him as your Hero of the Week.
Thank you,
Jeff
