We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…
Song: “Free”
Songwriters: Zac Brown
Album: The Foundation
In 2010, the Zac Brown Band released the fifth and final single from their debut album The Foundation. “Free” was written by lead man Zac Brown.
The inspiration came after he and the band climbed Mount Warning in Australia. The mountain stands about three thousand feet above sea level. It’s the first place that the sun touches in the morning as it rises over the Australian mainland. Zac said he could see for miles no matter which way he looked. When he felt a sense of peace come over him, the idea for the song was born.
In August 2010, “Free” became the fourth number one from The Foundation. This accomplishment marked the first time a country music act had four chart-topping singles from a debut album since Brooks & Dunn did it with their Brand New Man album back in the early 90’s.
