Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.
We received an email from James Mitchell from Lexington, Kentucky, and he wanted to nominate his wife Khelzie as our Hero of the Week.
James and Khelzie started an outreach program to help feed and clothe those in need. They collect food boxes and take them directly to people who are homeless. They also drop them off at local churches. During the cold months, Khelzie witnessed mothers holding babies in nothing but diapers – that’s why it’s so important to collect baby clothes and blankets. They’ve delivered over a thousand blankets, mostly in the city of Lexington.
The couple know all too well what it’s like to go without having been homeless themselves. Through rehabilitation, James was able to put addiction behind him. He met Khelzie when she was unhoused, pregnant with nowhere to go. Today, they’re married and have made it their mission to make sure they help as many people as possible in Kentucky and beyond.
