Jake Owen released “Best Thing Since Backroads” in the Summer of 2021, but the song almost didn’t get recorded by Jake.
At the time he was being asked to listen to the song, Jake had heard too many “backroad” songs and didn’t want to hear it. But, thankfully, his team, who Jake trusts, encouraged him to give it a listen because they thought it would be a perfect song for him to record.
After hearing it, Jake said the song reminded him of the way an old Alabama song makes him feel. It was a driving summertime tune that felt good. He thought the song felt like it pushed the bar for him a bit. It was just a little different than what he had recorded previously.
“Best Thing Since Backroads” received a great reception by fans. In August 2022, the song would peak just shy of the top, giving Jake another hit to add to his resume.
