We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…
Song: “Raised On Country”
Songwriters: Chris Young, Corey Crowder, and Cary Barlowe
Album: Famous Friends
In January 2019, Chris Young released the first song from his eighth studio album Famous Friends. Chris called “Raised On Country” his personal anthem. It was a song that spoke to the artists he loved and his passion for country music. He namechecks Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Joe Diffie, and George Strait, and he sings about country radio raising him.
Chris called it a “bus song” because that’s where it was written. He was touring a lot and wanted to find more time to do some writing. So, Chris took out an extra bus just for writing. It had a little studio in it so they could demo the songs they wrote. He wrote “Raised On Country” with his producer Corey Crowder and songwriter Cary Barlowe. Chris felt that the song was sonically different than what he’d done in the past, leaning more traditional.
In August 2019, the song reached the Top 5 and was certified gold.
