Heroes of the Week: Officer Wagner and First Responders

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.

Forty miles northwest of Wichita, Kansas, a police officer saved the life of a 14-month-old baby boy named Bentley.

Around 2pm, Bentley’s parents realized he was nowhere in sight, but then they heard his cries and quickly ran to the sound. It was coming from a PVC pipe that went down about 12 feet underground!

Police officers arrived on the scene and quickly went into action. They crafted a make-shift catchpole like something animal control would use to grab trapped pets. One of the first responders on the scene was Officer Wagner. He grabbed some rope and tied it to a small PVC pipe. He then ran the pipe and the rope all the way down. He looped it around the baby’s arms and pulled him to safety.

Kix’s Response:

Wow – now, that is what you would call a MacGyver-answer to a very serious problem!

To all the first responders on hand that day in Kansas, including Officer Wagner, we salute you as our ACC Heroes! Baby Bentely was shaken up, but otherwise is okay.
