This week’s Hero nomination comes from Haley who writes…
Hey Kix,

My name is Haley. I’m 24 years old and originally from Red Hook, New York. I am writing to you because I want to nominate my dad as Hero of the Week.

My dad has been a firefighter all my life and has always been my hero.  He is now the chief in the Rhinebeck fire department and even with being at the top of the chain he still strives to be better.

He has overcome so many obstacles and risks his life everyday to save others. But, not only is he a firefighter, my dad is also an EMT and works for Northern Dutchess Paramedics.

There’s no telling all the lives that have been saved by my dad or all the houses that are still standing because he was there.   He has a heart of gold and the strength of steel. My dad has worked so hard to be where he is and he is truly something special.  Everyone in the community knows his name and loves his face.

Kevin Asher 59-1 is my hero and I could only pray to be half the person he is one day. He’s a hero to many, but my hero because of his heart and courage… No matter what, he doesn’t give up!

Thanks, Kix!

Signed,

Haley

Kix’s Response:

Thanks so much for this, Haley, and reading between lines, my guess is your dad is more than a firefighter – it sounds like he’s a good father, too. Thanks for sharing him with us!
