Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not? – Caleb and Bethany’s Story

This is where YOU tell us YOUR love stories! You know, like how you met your honey… how you found true love after all this time… or maybe even how you finally got back together with the one that got away. You get the idea – whatever your “happily ever after” is, we wanna hear it!!!

Our very own producer Lonnie Napier found this week’s love story in The Tennessean.

It reads:

Caleb, 28, and Bethany, 26, met just one year ago at a gym where they worked in Franklin, Tennessee.  They started dating a few months later and became inseparable, and began planning a wedding for this October.  Sadly, Caleb learned he had a rare and aggressive form of cancer.  Unfortunately, it was resistant to treatment, and he was moved to Vanderbilt’s ICU where he wasn’t given long to live.

Fearing the couple may not make it to their wedding day, friends, family and hospital staff rallied together and created a hospital room wedding!  In just hours, there were flowers and rings from the hospital gift shop, a cake from the cafeteria, and even a photographer.  Before the ceremony began, a nurse showered the floor with flower petals.  Then, Bethany walked in, escorted by her mother, to Train’s song “Marry Me.” She stood by Caleb’s bed, and after exchanging rings, looked toward her groom and said, “I am honored to have you as my husband. No matter how much time we have together, you’ll always be the love of my life.”

Sadly, Caleb was moved to hospice a few days later.  There, the staff helped the couple get their official marriage certificate.  Once they received it, just a day later, dressed in a superhero t-shirt, with the couples’ dog at his feet and his wife by his side, Caleb passed away.  Bethany says they got married because they wanted to, not because they had to, and he’ll always hold the biggest piece of her heart.

Kix’s Response:

That is a tough one… Cancer has become so common in our world – the stories of love and support and hanging in there no matter what are always inspiring to me. This one is just about sharing that moment…
