This week’s Hero nomination comes from Mary who writes:

Dear Kix,

I would like to nominate the surviving 20 men of the four hundred Navajo Code Talkers.

Recently, I had the great honor and privilege of meeting two of the surviving heroes Dan Akee and Peter MacDonald.    These 20 men are the last of a very select breed of American heroes that served our country during WWII.    When the Japanese were breaking our military codes, the Navajo Code Talkers developed an unbreakable code that could be transmitted within minutes!  Their language was “unwritten,” had no alphabet, and they all memorized it.    These men saved countless American lives in the South Pacific, and today, since so few young people know about their heroism, I wanted to be sure they were recognized.

Thanks, Kix!

Signed,
Mary

Kix’s Response:

Very cool, Mary. That is another generation for sure but one I admire and appreciate you bringing some attention to – we owe them a lot!
