The ACC staff came across this story on the KOMO News website, and we wanted to shine the spotlight on this good Samaritan:

Micah Speir, from the King County Waste Management Company, spotted a bank bag full of checks totaling $12,000 in a pile of trash early one morning.  A slip inside the bag said that the checks were from a recent PTA fundraiser at the Lawton Elementary School. After making multiple phone calls, Micah finally reached the school’s principal Dorian Manza.

The two men met up, and Micah handed over the bag. Principal Manza wanted to reward him, so he took out his wallet to personally pay him back for returning the money, but Micah refused. He said that it didn’t take much effort to do the right thing… he just wanted to find out who it belonged to and get it back to them as soon as possible.  Principal Manza says that just speaks to Micah’s character and how he went the extra mile for the school, the kids and their families.

Now, the entire community is calling Micah a hero and thanking him for his good deed. Micah says that he was just doing his job, and he’s glad that the checks didn’t blow away!

Kix’s Response:

Doing the right thing. What a concept, huh? Micah, what you did was inspiring. I’m sure you could have used the cash, but there’s nothing quite like sleeping good at night, huh? It sounds like you’re a good man. I know that’s hard work hauling the trash every day, and I have a lot of respect for all you folks out there that do the dirty work, making things a little more pleasant for the rest of us… Thank you!
