This week’s Hero nomination comes from Tara who writes…

Dear Kix,

I nominate Dr. Guffison to be this week’s Hero because he saved my life!

Nine years ago when I was 14, I was in a four-wheeler accident that should have killed me.  I hit my head very hard on concrete and suffered a traumatic brain injury. The nurses and doctors said that I had less than a two percent chance of survival and if I did live I would not be able to function properly.

But, my brain surgeon Dr. Guffison said that I would be just fine…and even told my family and friends that he predicted I’d make a full recovery! And, just like he said, I did, and I graduated from high school and am now in college.

He said that I am a miracle. I was in a coma for two months. The right side of my body was paralyzed and I was blind out of my right eye. But, if you were to look at me now, you wouldn’t even be able to tell.

I survived this horrible accident not only because I was stubborn and too hard-headed to give up, but also because of my amazing brain surgeon’s positivity, encouragement, and skills!

Therefore, Dr. Guffison will always be my hero!

Thanks, Kix!

Tara

Kix’s Response:

Thanks for this one, Tara…

Well, any of us who have spent much time at a hospital know that working there is more than just a job. Those doctors and nurses have to deal with a lot of emotions to go along with their amazing talents. So, for all of you out there in scrubs giving us hope, thank you!
