We’re always on the hunt for a special person or organization to recognize as our Kidde Hero of the Week, and this time around our social media princess, Nikita Palmer, found this story from WPSD-TV, and shared it with us!

It’s about a group of people that make up The Joe Castrale Scholarship Committee in Johnson City, Illinois. It was named after their beloved late principal, Joe Castrale, of Jefferson Elementary. And, the committee’s mission is to give kids a jump-start on saving so they get excited about going to college, now. They want the kids to know that it IS possible to go to college and possible to pay for it!

So, they gave 63 kindergartners a small gift of ten dollars toward starting a college savings account, and now, relatives and parents and the kids have a place to put their money while they save up for school.

The committee says they’re hoping to make this something they can provide for every generation of local kindergarteners, and they’ve already gotten started on next year’s scholarships!

Kix’s Response:

Isn’t that cool?!
